What's at Stake - Ending Systemic Racism
When white folk truly contribute to essential change in the short, mid, and long term, we influence a future where there is a strong cultural consciousness around discrimination of all kinds. A future where love wins. Equality wins. Freedom, inclusion, and justice win. We support new patterns and opportunities for relating across difference. We embrace the values of listening, empathy, collaboration, servant leadership, and embracing everyone's gifts for the betterment of the world. |
We continue to wrestle with, talk about, and encounter our own curiosity about the following things and we are eager to talk with others about these questions and ideas:
On the subject of white guilt, complicity, and grief
What to do with these feelings? How do we process it all and put the results into action? In what ways do we support each other as we encounter new information and/or pushback from others? Not a token action Justifiably, any action by a privileged group can easily become (or be seen as) quite performative. How do we check ourselves in the mirror? What does holding each other accountable look like? Where are the balance points between inviting participation, calling attention to the opportunity to reflect, and continuing to CENTER this action on dismantling systemic racism? |
Importance of reflection on
white privilege What are the most effective ways to invite white people into conversation? How do we navigate the great divisiveness and hostility of our times in ways that are most meaningful and safe? Why does white spite have such a destructive foothold? |
Action that inspires deeper dives
What does an action plan look like that will provide leadership by our very actions and invoke a sense of inspiring others into the kind of contemplation that invites transformation? How might the Iroquois principle of sustainability serve this conversation? The intention: create space for depth and breadth of reflection
What has this walk helped me know about what I will do moving forward? What did I learn/discover and what do I intend to do with these discoveries as I move forward? How do I capture the ideas, images, and questions that arise during this walk? What's the pledge I make to self and others moving forward? What expressive art(s) experiences will help us in cooperative reflection? |
